Well, okay, it is a bit hard to say, exactly, when the stumbling begins to count as walking. Helen has been letting go of the furniture and lunging forward toward a new handhold for a week or two, now. Just yesterday, she did some really convincing standing still with no help or holding on. But today, we decided to really pronounce her first official baby steps!
What we caught on video was not her best attempt of the day, of course, but still fun (for me, anyway). I especially love her face at the end. She is so darned proud of herself. So, the official count is 10 months and 5 days. I think that puts her as our earliest walker, though James was also at 10 months so I would have to dig out his old baby book to really confirm. We'll just call it a tie for now.
