Tonight, James repeated his frequent request that we have the baby on a Friday night. He says he wants to have the whole weekend to be able to see the baby. I then repeated my offer, that he is allowed to miss school to come see the baby, if he wants to do so.
Actually, both James and Maggie have turned me down on this offer several times. They are anxious to meet their new sister, but not at the expense of missing school. Today, though, they changed their tune slightly. They both thought they might like to miss some school and see the baby as soon as possible. Well, sort of. Maggie didn't want to miss her "favorite" parts of school - snack time, art, 4th grade buddies.
"Oh, so, as long as it would be during reading or math, you would rather come to the hospital?" I asked her.
"Well, um, no, I like reading. I wouldn't want to miss reading time. Maybe anything else."
James wisely decided not to commit at this point. I am just glad that they are happy to be getting a new sister, regardless of how she currently ranks relative to lunchtime or recess at school. :)
